Origin Story

Have you seen the current issue of Architectural Digest? In it is an article about the heritage American textile brand, Scalamandre, and its iconic wallpaper design simply (and aptly) called Zebras. It tells the origin story of the of this memorable design and the Manhattan restaurant from which it started.

Similarly, in our world, each remodeling design begins with a good look at the home’s “origin story”. By understanding the existing architecture and other clues the home provides us, coupled with listening deeply to our clients’ wishes, we are able to make a seamless connection of timeless design and individual interpretation.

One of our all-time favorite projects was for a family wanting to expand and remodel a quaint home in Edina without disturbing its classic charm. The goal was to honor the architecture and refinement, while also infusing modern elements and providing color and vibrance to reflect the homeowner’s personality and preferred aesthetic.

Vujovich’s role was to pull together the architectural plans providing many millwork details blurring the lines between old and new spaces. The fresh and inspiring finishes were selected by designer Brooke Voss. One of the standout rooms in the home is a remarkable powder room wrapped in – you guessed it – Scalamandre’s Zebras!
