An Amazing Transformation

When our clients Bob and Libby moved into their 1930’s Cape Cod, it immediately felt like home – in large part because Libby had spent some of her younger years living in the house. She recalls how she and her sister shared the second story bedroom, but the space was always too hot in the summer and cold in the winter because insulation was almost non-existent, “The home leaked like a sieve,” said Libby.

The family home had received care and upkeep throughout its lifespan, but following decades of repairs and lots of repainting, it began to feel old and weary. The couple believed the home was worthy of an overhaul. Priorities included expanding the upstairs with a bump-out dormer, creating a more-livable bedroom and an additional bathroom on the second floor. It was also important to the homeowners to update the home’s various mechanical systems.

“When you have an 80-year-old home, at some point you have to make it current,” Bob said. “Now it feels stable, up-to-date, and environmentally responsible – it gives me peace of mind.”

Along with interior changes, the homeowners also wanted the exterior to receive a re-fresh. Libby had a vision for changing the minimal front entrance into something more welcoming. Through a collaborative design process, a gracious covered front porch was created, complete with custom-designed iron railings. The porch complements the look of the Cape Cod, and it makes the home feel a bit more inviting. The home has become like new after being insulated, roofed, and wrapped in new Hardie siding.

“I always felt confident that Vujovich was the right choice for us. I never worried about the process, because there was always very clear communication with our talented and capable Vujovich team,” said Libby.

Their neighbors are also thrilled with the changes. “Our house was the neighborhood eyesore,” Libby said, “Now I think it’s the cutest darn house on the block!”

“It’s just an amazing transformation, and we’ve received several complements from passersby.” said Bob.
