2018 Remodelers Showcase Dream Home

Open to the public noon to 6pm, March 23-25, guests make a $5 donation to the BATC Foundation as they enjoy the opportunity to tour an iconic Minneapolis home. This 1915 art deco brick Colonial sits one block west of Lake of the Isles in the Kenwood neighborhood, and is home to a restaurateur and local celebrity. The time had come to update the home to better support the needs for a busy modern-day family, while maintaining the classic romantic architecture and reflecting the homeowner’s personal style. This classic architectural gem provides many surprises for those fortunate enough to venture past its massive revitalized flame orange front door.

  • Inside, many of the home’s original architectural details were preserved while the homeowner’s personality sings through surprises found around every corner.
  • The wall colors feature variations of light powdery blues that act as a neutral backdrop, and stunning sparkling light fixtures that dazzle throughout the entire home, some new and some original.
  • A mudroom / powder room addition features herringbone slate tile floors, mesmerizing grass-cloth feather blooms on the ceiling, a repurposed leaded glass window, and delightful sconces adorned with gold bows.
  • The new main staircase, featuring stained dark mahogany, white enamel and a zebra print stair runner takes you to a dazzling crystal feather and gold toned chandelier at the 2nd floor landing.
  • The master suite at the top of the stairs features hardwood floors, a large walk-in closet, Carrera marble surround bubble jet tub, gold Faux Bois wall coverings and so much more!
  • The main level chef’s kitchen showcases custom cabinetry and a three-tiered curved walnut island with Pietra Gray stone top, prep sink, steam oven and statement chandelier is an ode to the home’s art deco roots. Classic white subway backsplash and white Carrara marble countertops line the perimeter and nod to the style of the homeowner’s restaurants. And the real showstopper? A one-of-a-kind Blue Star 6-burner gas range with custom hot pink knobs.
