2020 SPRING REMODELERS SHOWCASE – Canceled

5020 Bruce Avenue

Edina, MN 55424

Learn more about this home that was going to be part of the 2020 Remodelers Showcase (which is now canceled).

The homeowner loved growing up in this cozy 1938 Colonial in Edina but knew it lacked the functionality that his busy, young family required. After exploring numerous options including a variety of additions, the decision was made to work within the existing footprint. That decision turned out to be the right one – this home renovation proves that bigger is not always better.

Moving the kitchen to what was the dining room was the cornerstone of this transformation that touched nearly every inch of this classic home. Making this move created much-needed space for a main floor powder room and clutter-reducing mudroom. Originally closed off, the staircase was opened up and pushed back so the entryway could feel larger and more spacious.

The renovated kitchen is a showstopper. New windows and glass doors running along the back of the home blur the lines between the indoor and outdoor spaces offering stunning views up and down the creek.

New custom millwork complements existing details and a one-of-a-kind sculptural backsplash provides a unique focal point visible from many other rooms. The oversized kitchen island with a pumice-rubbed oak matte finish creates the ideal gathering place for this family of foodies. A butler hallway creates storage for kitchen overflow including spaces for cleaning and pet supplies.

On the upper level, we captured unused attic space a small portion of the master bedroom to create a much-needed second bathroom. The master bath was also given a spa-like update. Energy-efficiency and comfort were enhanced in all three bedrooms within the home’s eaves.

“We didn’t need a lot of space, but we needed it to function better. They totally flipped our idea on its head and truly transformed the house. We couldn’t be happier.”

-Gummy, Homeowner
