Classic Colonial with Pop

Remodelers Showcase Dream Home

Kenwood, Minneapolis

This 1915 Art Deco Colonial captured the heart of our free-spirited, entrepreneurial client right away. The family moved in quickly but then slowly realized that there were structural and functionality issues that needed to be addressed. A busy family with two kids to raise and multiple restaurants to run, they needed a home that would work as hard as they do, while still capturing their fun and unique style.

A talented restaurateur, the owner craved a big, open kitchen that would act as a gathering place during meal times. A creative reworking of the floor plan and unique design detailing gave the homeowners the form and function they desired. The fast pace of their lives also necessitated a mudroom/drop zone at the front of the house to keep the clutter under control. The perfect balance of classic romantic architecture, unexpected pops of style and surprise elements, make this home a true reflection of the client’s big and bold personality.

This classic architectural gem houses a chef’s kitchen featuring a customized three-tiered, curved walnut island, and a one of a kind 6-burner range with unexpected hot pink knobs.

The main floor layout and flow was significantly improved by consolidating two staircases into one. This clever modification provided ample room for the expansive kitchen, while maintaining the home’s original classic curved staircase.

The master suite is a true spa-like oasis of glamour and relaxation. The expansive bathroom features a Carrera marble surround bubble jet tub, while gold faux bois wall coverings and dazzling light fixtures lend impact to the rest of the suite.

Just off the kitchen and butler service area, this fresh and funky dining room is a great entertaining space and, again, offers a glimpse into the owners cutting-edge style.

It's All In The Details

“I only wish I would have done this sooner. Now the home is an extension of me, but better because I had Lori’s help and expertise to guide and edit my ideas.”
